Meaghan Flowers is committed to vulnerable children, and helps the foster community, too.

Seattle’s Child is proud to partner with the state Department of Children, Youth and Families Strengthening Families Washington to honor outstanding caregivers doing important work on behalf of children. Throughout February, we’ll introduce you to Unsung Heroes from around the state. Enjoy their stories.Ā

Meaghan Flowers, Cheney

I am honored to nominate Meaghan Flowers for the Unsung Hero Award. For 15 years, Meaghan and her husband have embodied parental resilience, providing a stable, loving home for over 100 children in foster care. Their commitment to the most vulnerable is evident in their willingness to care for all children, including those who are medically fragile and differently abled.

Meaghan demonstrates an extraordinary knowledge of parenting and child development. Managing complex medical schedules and specialized care requires more than just organization; it requires a deep understanding of each child’s physical and cognitive needs. Her advocacy ensures every child receives the concrete supports Ā necessary to thrive. Beyond fostering, Meaghan and her husband have opened their hearts permanently by adopting several children, providing them with lifelong belonging.

Meaghan’s impact extends to the wider caregiver community through social connections. Recognizing that fostering can be isolating, she provides vital mentorship to new foster mothers. By sharing her wisdom and empathy, she helps others navigate crises, preventing burnout and ensuring that more children remain in safe, supported homes.

Meaghan is the definition of an unsung hero. Her strength, courage and empathy have not only saved lives but have strengthened the entire foster care ecosystem in Washington. She fosters the social and emotional competence of every child who enters her home, teaching them that they are worthy of unconditional love.
