While strolling down Main Beach, Clarkes, or Wategos, search for ‘best cafés around me’ and you’ll get a superb list of options for obtaining a top-notch flat white, espresso, or cold-press coffee.
But there’s more: Byron’s cafés serve some of the best meals in Australia, frequently with organic and locally sourced ingredients and always in style. It’s one of the reasons why the locals enjoy these cafes as well. And why the good ones are constantly in high demand.
1. Bayleaf Cafe

In one of Byron Bay’s main foodie destinations, food and coffee merge with absolute grace. You might think you’ve stepped into one of the Bay Area’s hippest bars, but it’s actually a whole-food café/restaurant with a menu that reflects the finest of what’s in season and on trend.

The need to wait in line for a table just offers guests more time to peruse the full menu of coffees and cocktails, as well as the Instagram-worthy breakfasts, brunches, and lunches. Yes, we mentioned coffee and cocktails. And both are highly recommended.
3. Bay Grocer
Bay Grocer is a lovely local food store, groceries, and cafe right in the heart of town. The cafe serves Allpress Coffee and is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their baristas are quite friendly, and their food selection is exceptional.

We strongly advise you to try one of their treats with your coffee, such as a homemade peach danish, a delectable banana and chocolate muffin, or (our personal favourite) their dulce de leche ‘Alfajores’ biscuits (so good). If you need groceries, you can get them at the same time.
4. Espressohead
Espressohead has been a local favourite for over 15 years. This tried-and-true cafe and bistro across from the courthouse serves you outstanding coffee alongside inventive cuisine. Wherever feasible, locally sourced foods are used.

Espressohead is tucked away in the heart of Byron, has been a local’s hideaway for well over a decade, flourishing on a steady flow of loyal customers. Their all-day menu features fresh, locally produced, organic dishes ranging from vegan to gluten-free options, as well as outstanding coffee in every cup. So grab a seat and settle into this tiny and cosy room to explore Byron like a native.
Their hardworking baristas take delight in infusing love into every cup of coffee they create!

5. Sunday Sustainable Bakery
Sunday Sustainable Bakery, located in the heart of Byron Bay, is a local favourite for delectable meals and enlivening coffee sipped with conscience. Everything served is produced in-house by their enthusiastic artisan bakers using locally sourced and organic products whenever possible.

When you smell the wholesome aroma of Sunday Sustainable Bakery’s sourdough bread, you’ll be glad you got up early. Be quick or you’ll lose out; their handmade bread sells out quickly and is prepared fresh everyday. On a hot day, switch up your coffee routine and go for a nitrogen-infused cold drip iced coffee.
6. Dip Cafe
Dip, a popular breakfast and lunch place, serves some of the best coffee in town. Dip’s experienced baristas use local, organic coffee beans to enable locals and visitors alike get through the day – even if that means laying on the beach!

The outdoor seating is perfect for people-watching while sipping your coffee – you’ll want to sit there for hours.
Dip first debuted in Bondi in 1994 before moving to Byron Bay in 2010. We changed into the French incarnation it is now at COVID 19, in the tradition of the proprietor Jean Francois Cozic’s French ancestry.
The venue was inspired by 1930s Paris. You’ll be transported by the art deco decor, French antiques, and cool jazzy lounge music.
7. Barefoot Brew Room
Barefoot Roasters is the place to go if you take your coffee seriously. Barefoot Roasters specialises in artisan coffee roasting and provides a diverse selection of fresh coffee blends and single-origin coffee to retail and wholesale customers.
The Barefoot Brew Room is tucked away in a little laneway in central Byron, where you may try the best that Barefoot’s roasters have to offer.

Barefoot Roasters is a speciality coffee roasting company dedicated to producing the highest quality fresh roasted coffee. They roast only the highest quality beans while constantly inventing blends and roasting single origin coffee. They are committed to excellent quality and fair trade, with beans roasted with care and lovingly packaged.
Blend II is their major coffee blend, and it has won awards in the Golden Bean 2013, a national coffee roasting competition. Rodney was also named one among the top ten roasters in the Golden Bean competition.
8. Top Shop
Single-origin coffees, and delectable pastries round out a café menu that features an unrivalled burger selection. From beef to chicken, mushroom to halloumi, The Top Shop’s blackboard menu has something for everyone, all served between house-made buns.

In this favourite local hangout, gather around a table or lay out on the grass under blue skies. Alternatively, get a takeaway and walk down to Clarkes Beach, which is only an eight-minute walk away.
9. Sparrow
This cheerful, bright café, located right in the heart of Byron, is a local favourite. Sparrow serves Allpress Coffee as well as cold refreshments such as fresh juices and coconut water. And it’s usually humming with interesting conversation, thanks in part to its kind employees. Sparrow is the place to go if you need coffee on the go.

10. Beach Cafe
It would be difficult to find a better cup of coffee any closer to the beach! From this multifunctional restaurant and beach kiosk, you may enjoy magnificent ocean views while looking out over Clarkes Beach.
