Byron Bay is a coastal town and suburb in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. It’s world-famous for its natural beauty and surfing opportunities. It’s one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations.

Byron Bay is known as the “new hippy capital of Australia”. In Byron, we don’t feel the need to be cool all of the time, and we’re not afraid to have fun.

2. Surfing
Surfing and learning how to surf is big in Byron Bay. It’s home to the most consistent surf on the east coast of Australia – and that means it’s a great place to learn how to surf!
You can hire a board from any number of places or head out with one of the many operators for lessons and fun surfing. The season runs roughly from November through to May (depending on waves).
3. Relaxing holidays
Relaxing holidays are a big part of Byron’s appeal – people come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and unwind. You can start your day with yoga, then hop on a bike for a leisurely tour of town stopping for some fresh fruit on the way. But you don’t have to stop there, you can chose all manner of activities including golfing, horse riding, swimming and more.

4. The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse is a local symbol for Byron Bay. The lighthouse is a popular lookout point, and there are lots of beautiful scenery shots from its lookout. In the area around the lighthouse, there are some gorgeous beaches, cliff-top walks and a caveat Moon Hole.
5. Great weather
The weather can be absolutely perfect here, with the sun shining and not a cloud in sight. Although during the wet season it can rain pretty hard. However, in the summer it’s hot enough to go surfing and in the wet season it’s cool enough to go walking.
6. The markets
The markets are held the first and third Sunday of each month on the lawns at Byron Park at 10 am. There’s plenty of local fresh produce, arts and crafts, secondhand goods and delicious food available at this regular market. It’s a great way to meet the locals and get a taste of Byron Bay community life!
7. The alternative lifestyle
Byron Bay is known for its alternative lifestyle, meaning people live a relaxed life and are happy to go with the flow. It’s not about what you have, it’s about what you do. There are lots of free events on offer such as concerts, markets and festivals where people can come together to showcase their talents or simply enjoy the Byron vibe!

The beaches are some of the most spectacular around. It’s not just about surfing here, there are lots of other things to do including swimming, fishing and even horse riding along the beach. And don’t forget that Byron has some beautiful lake swimming pools as well!

There are more than 100 restaurants in town and if you’re a foodie there’s a whole list of delicious places to eat. If you prefer shopping, there are more than 20 great shops to browse in the town centre.
